LPIC-1 Exam 102-500, objective 107. Administrative tasks medium
Machine-checked — no person has signed for it. This question was read against the source cited below by an automated pass, which found no contradiction. That is a weaker claim than it sounds: the same kind of process wrote the question, so it can confirm its own mistake.
Treat it as a good draft rather than as settled fact, and read the source below before you rely on it. It is not used in mock exams here — only questions a person has signed for are.

Accepted answers
groupadd -g 1500 developersgroupadd --gid 1500 developersgroupadd developers -g 1500
Case sensitive — Linux is, and grading LS as ls would teach a falsehood.
Why
`groupadd -g GID NAME` creates the group with a chosen GID instead of the next free one. groupadd refuses a GID that is already taken unless you add -o (non-unique). To change the GID of a group that already exists you use `groupmod -g 1500 developers`, and to rename it `groupmod -n newname oldname`. Files still carry the old numeric GID after a groupmod -g, so they need chgrp afterwards.
